Close international cooperation is needed to ensure the safety of products – no matter where they are manufactured or if they are sold online or through traditional channels. That’s why every two years, since 2006, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Justice and Consumers brings safety experts from all around the world for International Product Safety Week.
This year’s event will focus on “New horizons for product safety”. It will include sessions on new trends in e-commerce and how market surveillance can adjust to keep pace with these changes. It will also take stock of the latest developments on new technologies, both in terms of new risks they pose when applied to consumer products and opportunities they create for more effective product safety enforcement. The role of youth, civil society and women in product safety will also be discussed, including in workshops organised with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The event will provide an excellent opportunity for discussion among a broad range of stakeholders, including national authorities, international regulators, consumer organisations, industry, standard-makers, test laboratories, academics, lawyers and other product safety experts.
As in the past editions, the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) International Symposium will take place in the framework of the International Product Safety Week. This year’s symposium will be held on 14 and 15 November under the title "Redefining Key Concepts of Product Safety". A separate paid registration will be required to attend the ICPHSO sessions.
We truly hope you will be able to join us in person to fully benefit from the networking and interaction opportunities! If you are not able to travel, you can still watch the live streaming of the event upon registration.
